Sea Trout Festival 2004 - River Annan
2004 Festival, 11th to 18th July.
The results - SUMMARY
Ian Melville,(left) captor of the largest sea trout for the week, and Alex Saville, overall winner of the Challenge
On the first night, Ian Melville had the biggest fish at 5 1/2 pounds, and his fishing partner Alex Saville had the most with 5, so that was a good start for the lads from Dumfries. The next day Ian's fish was found to be a farmed salmon, one or two of which are caught in the Annan every year, so it was removed from the leader board.
The following night Martin Ede had a sea trout of 6 3/4 pounds anyway which eased the pain a bit.
As the week progressed the lead was always changing but was between Edward Malleson who won the very first Sea Trout Festival, and Alex Saville, who has fished in every one without winning. It was down to the wire on the final night and both ended with 12 fish but Alex was declared the winner on time as he caught his fish earlier than Edward did.
Edward was awarded second place with Peter Hutchison in third, despite having to leave early some nights due to pressure of work. Bit of a dark horse our Peter and one to watch in the future obviously.
Meanwhile Ian Melville caught a 7 1/2 pound sea trout on the final night, so he did win the prize for largest sea trout after all despite the drama earlier in the week. Or as Ian put it "I prefer quality over quantity every time"
As always most of the sea trout caught were returned apart from a few needed for the cookery demonstration and closing dinner.
